1. How do I bring up one X Window session on two monitors?
Specify both devices in the xinit command using the -dev option:
/usr/openwin/bin/xinit -- /usr/X11R5*/bin/Xtsi -dev /dev/gxtra0 -dev /dev/gxtra1
-or-
/usr/openwin/bin/openwin -dev /dev/gxtra0 -dev /dev/gxtra1
The main window will come up on the first device specified. When you move the mouse off the right side of the screen, it will appear on the left edge of the second screen.

2. How do I make X Windows use a different keyboard?
Specify the keyboard in the xinit command using the -kbd option:
/usr/openwin/bin/xinit -- /usr/X11R5*/bin/Xtsi -kbd /dev/gxtrakbd0
NOTE: Openwin does not have a -kbd option.
3. How do I make X Windows use a different mouse?
Specify the mouse in the xinit command using the -mouse option:/usr/openwin/bin/xinit -- /usr/X11R5*/bin/Xtsi -mouse /dev/gxtramouse0 NOTE: Openwin does not have a -mouse option.
4. How do I make X Windows use overlays?
Overlays are only available for GXTRA/3, GXTRA/3 Turbo, GXTRA/12, GXTRA/10, GXTRA/2000, and the Raptor series (1 and 2) cards. To activate them, specify the overlay as a separate device in the xinit command.
/usr/openwin/bin/xinit -- /usr/X11R5*/bin/Xtsi -dev /dev/gxtraovl0 -dev /dev/gxtra0
5. How do I find out what my graphics adapter devices are called?
Your devices are listed in the 'dmesg' command.
dmesg | grep gxtra
or
dmesg | grep raptor
In some cases, this may not return anything even though everything is installed properly. If this happens, you may need to check your /var/adm/messages file for the latest entry, or simply try each /dev/gxtra# or /dev/fbs/raptor# device.

6. What are the zstra devices?
Each GXTRA card has its own keyboard port. The keyboard and mouse which are attached to this port are given zstra device numbers in the following manner:
Frame Buffer /dev/gxtra(N) /dev/gxtra0
Keyboard /dev/zstra(2N) /dev/zstra0
Mouse /dev/zstra(2N+1) /dev/zstra1

7. Why do I only get 53 columns at 640 by 480 resolution?
The GXTRA cards are fully programmable. That means that it must function over any given resolution. The font that the GXTRA login uses is too big to display 80 columns on a 640 × 480 screen, so the driver changes to number of available columns to the most it can display. In this case 53.

8. The GXTRA has 16 switch positions for video, how do I set my own screen resolution parameters?
The GXTRA card is fully programmable, but you only have 16 switch positions. The last two switch positions on the card (E and F) are reprogrammable. Provided with the drivers is a program called 'newres'. You will find it in $TSIHOME/bin.There is also a man page available for it. With this program, you may change the settings for the last two switch positions. It is not recommended that you rewrite the flash often as it WILL wear out.
9. Why isn't reverse video working on the GXTRA monitor?
The GXTRA driver will support the codes for 'wscons'. To initiate reverse video, use ESC[7m. To return to normal, use ESC[0m. Some other video cards may produce inverse video with ESC[1m, but GXTRA devices require '7'.

10. How do I keep the Console messages from going to the background on the GXTRA terminal?
OpenWindows and X will not allow us to open a "console" window on each terminal. It would create a security leak. So, we must redirect the output when we start the windowing environment (e.g. openwin >& /tmp/mylogfile). This can be added to your startup files if you wish to have it done automatically. To emulate a "console" window, start up an xterm and type "tail -f /tmp/mylogfile". As messages are written to the file, they will appear in the xterm.
Note: Since all users on a system share the same /tmp directory, you should give each user a unique log file. One way to do this is to add the PID to the end of the file name.

11. When I try to start OpenWindows from the GXTRA terminal, I get a message saying "Cannot run OpenWindows from /dev/bd.off/bd.off/ttyC0".
A bogus entry was created by Solaris in the /dev directory. Remove the files /dev/term/a, /dev/term/b, and /dev/bd.off then do a reconfiguration boot. You can check this by typing "tty" at the GXTRA terminal.
12. At boot-up, I get a WARNING: /devices/io*/sb*: No such device or address.
One of two possible problems:
You are using an expansion box. Check the "dmesg | grep gxtra" to find the exact address to the Tech Source devices (e.g., /iommu@0,10000000/sbus@0,10001000/SUNW,xbox/Tech Source,gxtra@3,0) Then modify line 38 or 40 of /etc/init.d/tsi_tty to reflect this. Then reboot. (e.g., SBus=`ls -d /devices/io*/sb*/SUNW*`)
The Tech Source devices were not created properly. Did you "reboot -r" after installing the card, but before installing the Tech Source software? IF so, contact Tech Source for help. If not, run $TSIHOME/install/uninstall, reboot -r, and reinstall the software.
13. At boot-up, I get a WARNING: zstra0 - silo overflow.
This could be be as simple as a bent pin. It could also be a low priority serial port, a memory leak on the system, or perhaps a faulty keyboard.

14. Can I use my Solaris 2.3 drivers with Solaris 2.4?
No. Changes that were made between these versions prohibit using the 2.3 drivers with 2.4. Be sure to get the latest version of the drivers from your reseller unless you are on direct maintenance with Tech Source.
15. Can I use my Solaris 2.4 drivers with Solaris 2.3?
Yes. The 2.4 drivers will work for both 2.3 and 2.4, but not for Solaris 2.5.
16. When I start X Windows I get misplaced lines all over the screen?
There is a bug in the Solaris 2.4 operating system running on SPARC 5 machines. It can be corrected by applying Sun Patch No. 101945. You will have to contact Sun in order to receive this patch. We are not authorized to provide it for you, sorry.
This same bug exists in Solaris 2.3, but has a different patch number. Apply Sun Patch No. 101318.

17. How do I get rid of those XDISPLAY messages?
To get rid of the "Warning no XDISPLAY information for 2..." messages, find the following lines in the /usr/openwin/server/etc/OWconfig file. Add a similar entry for each of the problem displays, changes the "0" to match the problem display number.
class="XDISPLAY" name="0" coreKeyboard="IKBD" corePointer="IMOUSE" dev0="/dev/fb";
18. Why won't my keyboard work when I start X Windows?
The new SPARC Ultra workstations do not support the old Type 4 keyboards.
